Position Summary
The Labor Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination, dispatch, and administrative management of labor personnel supporting port and maritime operations. This role serves as the operational backbone of the port office, ensuring all job orders are filled accurately and timely while maintaining strict adherence to USL&H exposure classification, safety compliance, and workforce credentialing requirements.
Performance in this role directly impacts:
Working under the direction of the Port Operations Manager, the Labor Coordinator interfaces directly with field employees and clients to facilitate efficient labor deployment in dynamic, high-risk maritime environments.

High school diploma required.
Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in staffing coordination, dispatch, logistics, or administrative operations
Experience in maritime, industrial, or high-volume staffing environments strongly preferred

- Coordinate daily labor dispatch operations to fulfill client job orders across port, terminal, and shipyard locations
- Assign personnel based on qualifications, certifications, and job-specific requirements
- Maintain real-time visibility of workforce availability, attendance, and job assignments
- Communicate job details, reporting instructions, and safety requirements to assigned personnel
- Adjust staffing in real-time to meet operational changes, call-offs, or surge demands
- Support compliance with the **Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act by accurately tracking maritime vs. non-maritime labor hours
- Maintain accurate payroll coding and job classifications aligned with maritime insurance requirements
- Prepare and support reporting for insurance audits and underwriting reviews, including coordination with partners such as American Equity Underwriters
- Escalate potential misclassification or exposure concerns to the Port Operations Manager
- Reinforce compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and maritime safety protocols
- Ensure all dispatched employees are properly equipped with required PPE prior to assignment
- Communicate site-specific safety requirements, hazards, and client expectations before shift start
- Track and maintain safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, TWIC, confined space, rigging)
- Assist with incident reporting, documentation, and follow-up coordination
- Serve as a primary administrative point of contact for client job orders and staffing requests
- Ensure timely, accurate, and professional communication with clients regarding staffing status
- Maintain a high standard of customer service, responsiveness, and follow-through
- Support resolution of staffing issues, no-shows, and performance concerns
- Act as a point of contact for field employees regarding assignments, scheduling, and expectations
- Support onboarding coordination, including document collection and system entry
- Monitor attendance trends and escalate reliability concerns
- Assist with basic employee relations matters and escalate as appropriate
- Maintain accurate records of:
- Job orders and dispatch logs
- Employee assignments and hours worked
- Certification and credential tracking
- Input and manage workforce data within company systems
- Ensure documentation is audit-ready and maintained in accordance with company and regulatory standards
- Coordinate return-to-work and light duty programs in conjunction with HR and insurance partners
- Maintain compliance with port authority rules, safety standards, and client-specific requirements
- Enforce workplace safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within all operations
- Complete requisitions for approval of office expenses.
